Pothos was the god of passion and of sexual longing, yearning and desire. Late classical writers describe him as a son of Zephyros (the west wind) and Iris (the rainbow) to represent the different passions of love. When the goddess Aphrodite first emerged new-born from the sea-foam's, she was greeted by the twin loves Eros and Himeros.
