Alasdair Bothwell Gordon (2008), Lammas Empowerment
Lammas was an early "thanksgiving" type of holiday involving the blessing and consecration of loaves made from the first wheat to ripen around the 1st of August.
In the Celtic calendar, Lughnasad (1st August) is associated with the god Lugh. At this time, offerings were made to ensure a good harvest. According to folklore, this feast was founded by Lugh to honour his foster mother, the goddess Tailtiu.
